All Brasada Windmills have a new actual working Aermotor mill (actual working parts) on top of an all-Western cedar wooden tower.

About the Mill

The Aermotor Company has been manufacturing windmills since 1888. We offer a new Aermotor mill on each of wood towers. Each mill comes with a 7-year limited warranty. Mill sizes vary according to water needs, from 6' to 16' diameter wheel size.

Wheel size (diameter) / Elevation water can be raised.

Circa 1586 A.D.

6 ft. / 120 ft.

8 ft. / 175 ft.

10 ft. / 260 ft.

12 ft. / 390 ft.

14 ft. / 560 ft.

16 ft. / 920 ft.

20ft / 1200 ft.

*Aermotor mills can be set on a short stroke which will increase the elevation to which water can be raised by one-third.

Tower Heights (base to center of wheel):

Most common are 19, 25, 35, 40 and 50 ft.

Wood Type:

Western Red Cedar is the choice of wood for Brasada Windmills due to its unbeatable quality, appearance and longevity. The natural oils in cedar help make the wood resistant to decay and insect attach, increasing its durability and weatherability without the use of chemical treatment.

Wood Finish:

Although cedar is a naturally durable species Brasada Windmills does not recommend leaving it untreated. Properly finished and maintained, cedar will deliver decades of trouble-free service. Wood Sizes:

Timber sizes range from 4x4 to 8x8 for corner posts of the windmill tower. Cross braces sizes range from 1x6 to 4x8. Which combination depends on forces the tower will experience. Under no circumstances will Brasada Windmills compromise structural integrity for cost considerations.

Hardware:

Western Red Cedar has good fastening properties but its natural preservatives have a corrosive effect on some unprotected metals causing a black stain on the wood. Brasada Windmills uses hot-dipped galvanized bolts to prevent this black stain on the wood.
